The Captains Log 16/10
I have had a few requests for how to set up some ships to gank hulks. So here it goes.
The first thing and only thing you need is damage; puts as much damage potential on to your ship as humanly possible. This includes fitting the biggest guns possible to your ship and then adding as many weapon upgrades as possible. Yes I know going over three is normally not worth while, but what else are you going to put? A buffer tank you say. There is no point in that, once CONCORD is there they jam you so lasting longer is not that big of a deal. Just get out as much damage as you can. Also buy some faction ammo, you only need few rounds to last you before CONCORD gets there. Also, use blasters as they do the most damage out of all the weapons systems out there, so that generally means flying Gallante. That is the basic fit you want on any gank ship. You can then put on other modules as you need (such as points, drone upgrades, afterburner etc).
Now when using these fits make sure that you have at least two Vexors per Hulk (one may do it if it is not tanked). For the Catalyst you can get away with two (again if not tanked) but you should aim for a minimum of three. Now without further ado the setups (thanks to Daq for writing them up).

Aren’t you getting close to becoming incredibly bored with shooting down mostly defenseless ships? Sure, I can see someone having fun with it once or twice just to say they did it or to see Concord light up the sky with your wreckage. But you pursue these soft targets like some idiot trying to perfect the art of punching five year old kids in the face just outside a police station. They don’t really stand a chance to fight back (which they aren’t really interested in doing in the first place), they may only attempt to run (which they probably won’t really bother with since it really isn’t worth it), and at worst you’ll set them back financially for about 30 minutes while they get their insurance payout and gather another load of ore to sell to make up the difference.
Play how you want to, but it’s really odd to see someone bragging and celebrating over their own trivial and meaningless actions.
We tend to put sensor boosters with scan resolution scripts into the mids of the Catalysts so that you can target almost instantly as you land. Otherwise we use the same exact Catalyst fit for all our ganking.
Dave,
Actually, it’s profitable.
Grabbing 15 hulks netted us about 100m in loot and salvage (which, was quicksold for a lot less, but, wtfe), and then some members were given donations assigned ransom of up to 150m each.
Not as profitable as level 4 missions, but, not entirely bad.

Firstly, we are doing it because it is fun to do and it’s a way to relax for a while befor the big campaigns start down in 0.0. Once they get underway we will be spending our time down in null sec.
Secondly. Hulks are T2 ships. Have you ever tried insuring a T2 ship before? They are insured for a fraction of their cost so they are really out of pocket when one gets destroyed.
