The Captains Log 26/1

Ship: Mackinaw

As part of my plan to generate more ISK I am getting a couple of my characters the standings they require to run level four missions. This means a lot of mission grinding, which can get a little boring.

So I decided to liven things up a little by doing some Ice mining on one of my characters. Yes you heard right; I was going to relieve the grind of running mission by mining. You see mining has a couple of nice benefits. Firstly it would allow me subsidise part of my fuel bill for my S&I POS and secondly other people like to mine as well. Some of those people like to jet can mine which naturally attracts other people who like to can flip the miners in the hope of an easy kill.

Now I like to jet can mine, though not because it’s quicker or more efficient. I like to do it in the hope that some prick will come along and can flip me so I can bring my mission running character out in a PvP ship and blow up some poor unsuspecting can flipper. Now don’t get me wrong I couldn’t care less about people can flipping, I only want to blow them up to get a bit of amusement out of it.

So when I see a hauler warp in to the Ice belt with me I got really excited thinking I was about to be can flipped. I was therefore very disappointed when a Retriever warped in beside him and proceeded to mine Ice. Now using a hauler to haul the ore out as you mine it is a very effective way of avoiding can flippers and remain productive. However, it is not foolproof as the miner still has to jet can his ore for the hauler to pick up. If the hauler fails to grab it quickly enough I can grab it first. So that what I did. I got up nice and close to the Retriever in my Mackinaw and grabbed his ore when he jet canned it. Then been the nice guy I am I jettisoned it for him to grab. He wasn’t going to do that though. So when my cargo hold gets full of Ice I warp out of the system to dump my Ice at my POS. While I’m gone the hauler thinks it’s a good idea to take his Ice back and deliver it to the station next door. When he jumps the gate though he runs right into my Wolf who is waiting to teach him about why it is bad to steal ore. Needless to say the hauler’s life span was dramatically shortened when he made the decision to steal his ore back.

It was a good day to be a miner (for me at least). The next day was even better.

Warping into the same Ice belt the day after I found a person jet can mining. He had three jet cans full of Ice just sitting next to him so I decided to be a helpful and caring person and came along in my Iteron V to haul all his Ice to my POS to save him doing all that hard work. After I did all that hard work for him he didn’t even thank me, which was very rude of him. My only regret is that I didn’t have enough time to can flip him. Ahh well we can’t have everything in life and Ice miners can’t have their ore.

A Industrial Empire

The Captains Log

Solar system: Hermin

Ship Class: Iteron V

Well ok it’s not an industrial empire but we can all dream cant we. So far I have set up my industry and trading corp and got myself a research and production POS up and running, which has done a little bit of production and a little bit of blueprint research. I plan on getting it to run at full capacity once my invention skills are up to scratch allowing me to get a good invention success rate.

A weapons factory

Of course I have also put a number of defences on the POS since I know there are people out there that like to go around ganking undefended POS and stealing all the modules. Luckily I know most of the people that do that.

I plan on expanding my industrial empire by putting up some reaction POS’s and getting more involved in trading once again, but that has to wait till I get some cash to invest in it..

Well I have POS’s to manage and build orders fill, I had better get to it.

Flash Fiction #2: Yulai

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

This weeks Flash Fiction topic from over at Ecliptic Rift is Yulai and the CONCORD core communications hub that was destroyed there.

***

Rurik looked up at the star intersecting a broken circle. Some of the stars points had being broken off and circle itself was warped and misshapen with parts of it missing altogether. Flashes of light and the glowing sparks of superheated metal intermediately lighted the symbol; the broken symbol of CONCORD.

Rurik turned back to his men, who where all clad in space suits and carrying the equipment necessary to cut their way through the ruins CONCORDS core communications hub in Yulai. His team now stood at the threshold of their objective, the CONCORD Yualai archives, housing all the information that had being sent from their agents on the field to the corporate headquarters.

“How much longer before we are through Corporal?”

“Not long Sir. This last bit is harder to cut though due to metals warping”

Rurik nodded in response and looked back down they path they had taken to get here. It wasn’t pretty. They had being forced to cut through most of station and work their way though tight gaps all the way making sure they did not puncture their suits. Some of his men had not being careful enough. They payed the price.

They worst part had being the bodies, some flash frozen others burned horribly and more were in pieces. They just floated through the ruins condemning any who dared to desecrate their final resting place.
“Captain, were through.”

Rurik turned back to see a hole had being cut through where the door had once being revealing the archives beyond. Thankfully they had not being damaged too much, due no doubt to reinforced walls.

“Right men, get in there and retrieve any hard drives that are salvageable and make it quick. I’m sure none of you want to be here any longer then necessary.”

Rurik stood in front of the hole and watched his team get to work. Soon all this information would be his. Everyone knew knowledge was power.

The Captains Log 18/1

Solar System: Amarr

Station: Emperor Family Academy

I haven’ done one of these in awhile so here it is the sixth installment of the From the Viewport series.

Angel: My agent wanted me to kill some Angels, so I obeyed, but they put up a hell of a fight.

Sansha Base: Even pirates need a place to call home.

Asteroid Colony: I’m not sure what I should feel here when I releasied what feats people are capable of to survive or that people are forced to live in run down colonies like this.

Eve Blog Banter #14: To Dream of the Future

Friday, January 15th, 2010

Welcome to the fourteenth installment of the EVE Blog Banter, the monthly EVE Online blogging extravaganza created by CrazyKinux. The EVE Blog Banter involves an enthusiastic group of gaming bloggers, a common topic within the realm of EVE Online, and a week to post articles pertaining to the said topic. The resulting articles can either be short or quite extensive, either funny or dead serious, but are always a great fun to read! Any questions about the EVE Blog Banter should be directed to crazykinux@gmail.com. Check out other EVE Blog Banter articles at the bottom of this post!

The first banter of 2010 comes to us from the EVE Blog Father, CrazyKinux himself, who asks the following: As we begin another year in New Eden, ask yourselves “What Now?” What will I attempt next? What haven’t I done so far in EVE? Was it out fear, funds, or knowledge? Have I always wanted to start my own corporation, but have never dared doing so? Is there a fledgling mercenary waiting to come out of its shell? Or maybe an Industrialist? What steps and objectives will I set myself to accomplish in order to reach my ultimate goal for this year? EVE is what you make of it. So, what is it going to be for you?

Over the last three years I have pretty much dabbled in everything, but I have really spent 95% of my time living in Null sec and I don’t see that changing any time soon as I don’t like empire for PvP (unless it is POS’s) and I don’t like Low sec PvP (to many restrictions). So that just leaves a life in 0.0 or wormholes space. For me there are two big things I want to do 1) Get more involved in PvP and 2) Make lots of ISK to support number 1.

While I have always being up for a bit a PvP I have never being totally committed to it, at best I consider myself a carebear willing to throw ships away. Most of my time in 0.0 has being spent running Plexs, ratting or doing anomalies (or just doing stuff you can’t remember but seems to take up a lot of your time…). Not that I consider myself totally incompetent at PvP, it’s just that I need to do it more often. So to that end I plan on being more involved in PvP, which is a good thing considering I am now a PvP trainer in OUCH.

One recurring problem I have had though out my time in Eve is making ISK. I tend to get a nice cash boost from some good lot which I then use to buy what I want and then it runs out and I have no ISK for a while. Therefore I plan on getting more of a passive income stream by getting involved in T2 production, moon mineral reactions, trading and a level 4 mission running. I have dabbled in all this before not with any serious intention of doing them long term. Naturally to do all this I am going to have to get a few POS’s set up in Empire so that will be the first step (and is already under way).

Skill wise, I have never really had a plan to begin with, I just train whatever I feel like at the time. I was going to get Prometheus09 into a Paladin to run anomalies in but now that I’m not in Esoteria anymore there isn’t much point. Instead I may just get skills to 5 to improve his PvP readiness, though admittedly a Marauder isn’t too far way and the skills needed for it will help me PvP wise.  Caladan09 will instead focus on getting into a Paladin for mission running while Fishy Night may just get crossed trained into another race, possible Amarr as well, or Ill just get him to focus on getting more support skills.

Corporation wise, I’ll be staying in OUCH for the foreseeable future, though I’ll still be running CPR on the side and a little industry corp as well to get me ISK. Alexia has goals for OUCH and wants to see it expand into Curse as respected corporation and alliance and I will be there to help him do it. Though to be honest I have been two alliance trying to start from scratch and they have not worked out, so my presence may doom him. Then again those failed alliances weren’t run by Australians : )

There are two things I have on my wishlist to do at some time in future; start a Black ops focused corp (or join one) so I can get a lot more play time in my favourites class of ships (Stealth Bombers, Recons and Black Ops) and do the type of warfare I like most. In the future I may even be able to set up a Black Ops corp in OUCH, but that would be a long way off. Building on that I would like to move said corp into a wormhole that has a static 0.0 exit so said Black Ops corp pop in and out of 0.0 anywhere in Eve and harass some unsuspecting locals. Of course if I ever got said corp up and running I would like it to be allied with another PvE based corp in wormhole space who are attacking Sleepers just so when there are no ops on we can join in with them to make ISK etc.

So there you have it. My plans for the coming year and my Eve dream.

The Captains Log 13/1

Solar system: Utopia; Curse

Ship: Ishkur Class Assault Ship

The last week or so I have been dealing with the fallout of attacking Chribba and then being kicked out of the alliance along with my old corp I.M.M. For the most part this has involved moving assets out of Esoteria and then setting up shop elsewhere.

I.M.M has joined Black Star Alliance, a alliance allied with IT (former BoB) and have began to help in the push to take fountain from Pandemic Legion.

I on the other hand, have taken my leave of I.M.M and have joined another corp, the Open University of Celestial Hardship (OUCH) as a PvP trainer. I promised Alexia (AKA Black Claw) that if I ever got kicked from Sys-k I would join him in training new students. Well I got kicked so now I’m fulfilling my promise.

For those who don’t know about OUCH, it is a null sec survival training corp that, as you can no doubt guess, teachs people how to survive in null sec. As an aside we are always after more trainers so if you want to help out talk to Alexia. So far I have promoted a couple of training course consisting of Wolf Packs, T1 frigate fleets which will go live this weekend, and I am also in the process of planning a little game that involves getting a Hauler out of deep null sec. A most important skill if you want to get all the loot out and your assets in.

In between laying down the foundations for my course I have been ratting out in Curse in my Ishkur to repairer my sec status. Fortunately, this little trial is now over and I can now go anywhere in High Sec again! I have to say though an Ishkur is a little slow for ratting; I think I will have to use my Drake next time.

There were a couple of close calls with a Cynabl pilot (faction cruiser). First off he warped into a belt with me and I got out just before he got into disrupter range and then a little latter as he jumped through a gate with me forcing me to cloak up on the other side. He then proceeded to try and decloak me, coming to within 5km before he gave up and left me alone in peace. Phew, I didn’t want to have to and get a new ship.

Once my sec status was repaired my first port of call was Amarr where I bought my self a lovely new Eagle, for which I have great plans.

Now that the majority of the Carebearing is out of the way, its time to get some more PvP time in, teach some students and more importantly get those kills coming in.

See you all on the flip side.

Flash Fiction 1: If this goes on…

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

This weeks flash fiction from Ecliptic Rifit is “If this goes on…”

***

Rurik lounged back in his Command Chair looking at the new arrival in his office.

“Lieutenant Korsakov, as you may know we have recently lost one of our agents in the field, which is unfortunate for us. Fortunately, though intel has managed to locate where he is going to be held, a little out of the way integration facility over in the Hamah system on planet one. So Lieutenant you job is quite simple; destroy the holding ship before it reaches the facility and end the danger our agent presents to this organisation. I suggest you do so as the transport ship prepares to dock at the facility. Here is a datachip containing the known details of the transport ships route and the estimated time of arrival. Dismissed Lieutenant”

Korsakov saluted “Sir,” about turned and strode out of Rurik’s office leaving him to think about what was to be done next.

***

Lieutenant Korsakov looked out across the Bridges viewport into fires of the local sun. Even with the viewports fully tinted the glare of sun was painful to the eyes. The Caracal’s structure creaked and groaned as the solar storm buffered the ship, providing cover from any electronic sensors attempting to find them.

Sub-Lieutenant Povas approached him on the bridge “If this goes on much longer sir the ship will fall apart. The engineers report a lot of the stress is being placed on the capacitor.”

“Fortunately Sub-Lieutenant, it won’t have to go on much longer, the prison ship should be arriving imminently.”

Korsakov turned back to sun and waited a few tense minutes listening to his ship groan beneath him.

“Sir, our probes are picking up a new contact, tracing it now….. they indicate that it is a Iteron Class industrial, the transponder matches that of the one provided by the Captain.”

“Navigation prepare for warp. Sub-Lieutenant inform the ships personal to prepare for engagement. We are going in with our weapons hot” ordered Korsakov.

Korsakov felt the Caracal lurch into warp and watched the sun recede into the distance as the ship headed towards the interrogation facility and the waiting prison ship. Korsakov turned around and headed to his command chair when a muffled blast went off in the depths of the Caracal. The ship shook, scattering anything that was not fastened down. The main lights dimmed and then flickered over to the emergency lights.

“Situation report” barked Korsakov. A few tense seconds later the Chief Engineer looked up from his display.

“Sir, there is damage to the capacitor battery due to the stress the solar storm was placing on it. It will no longer be able to keep the ship operational with all systems running. Moreover when we exit warp, if we engage with all our systems in use the capacitor will die on us. We will be unable to warp.”

Korsakov stood there thinking. Engaging would mean he wouldn’t be able to warp away, condemning his crew to death at the hands on the stations defenders. Not engaging would mean the Gallante Dogs of War would gain a valuable asset. Neither option was acceptable.

“If we diverted all power from our shields to the engine would be able to enter warp?” Queried Korsakov

“We could Sir… but we would be defenceless. We will die.”

“No we won’t. It’s only a Iteron, it should be dead before the Interrogation facility is able to scramble a defence. Navigation as we land I want you to align us to the escape vector. Weapons, you are to engage that Iteron as soon as we land.”

A series of affirmatives answered Korsakov’s orders from across the bridge.

“Exiting warp in 3… 2… 1…”

“Target is 17.5 km away”

“Aligning to exit point”

“Locking target…..”

“Enemy Frigates are scrambling from the Interrogation Facility…”

“Missiles are away.”

“Station guns are resolving locks on us…”

“Drones are being deployed against the enemy frigates..”

“Targets shields are gone.”

“Sir the station guns are tearing our shields to pieces.”

“Targets armour is destroyed.”

“Enemy frigates are approaching disrupter range..”

“Armour is nearly depleted, damage is starting to bleed into the structure.”

“Target destroyed.”

“Warp out. Warp out.”

“Warp initiated.”

The whole bridge relaxed as the ship entered warp. Korsakov stood up from his command chair and turned to face his crew.

“Mission accomplished people. Good work.”

The Captains Log 9/1

Solarsystem: Jorund; Curse Region

Station: Serpentis Corporation Chemical Refinery

Well my attacks on Chribba have being making the rounds in more official news circles lately.

First there was this article, Chribbas Butterfly War, written by Mike Azariah in the Eve Tribune which gives a nice run down of what was going through the minds of all the involved parties. However it is only on page 3! Should be the front page : )

Then the Interstellar Correspondents released a in game news articles, Eco-Terrorists Attack Chribba’s Starbases; Capsuleers Rally To Defend, which gave me much more publicity.

There has being a couple of blog posts about it as well, one by Hallan Turek and the other by Manasi.

Other than that though I got this mail yesterday

Thanks for entering the recent Dominion screenshot competition in E-ON magazine. This message is to inform you that your entry was chosen for publication and that we have a copy of the latest magazine to send to you… you can also expect 100m ISK in your wallet too!

Well that makes me even happier. One of my screenshoots I took is making it into EON magazine! You will have to wait until then though to see which picture it is.

Also Kaye Talon, one of CPRs members, wrote a little fiction piece about joining CPR and then another one about a very nice POS take down we did recently. Go read them they are well written.

The Butterfly Effect

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

The Captains Log 7/1

Solarsystem: Irnin; Domain Region

We have all seen the Butterfly Effect trailer that promotes the idea that single person’s actions can affect the lives and game play of everyone one around them. Well let me now tell you a story about the butterfly effect.

It all starts with a corporation called the Disgruntled Postal Workers Union, who happens to have an undefended POS with some tasty labs anchored around. Naturally, this a great target for CPR so we war dec them with the intention of reducing the POS to space dust. However, an Atlas member convos me and explains that Disgruntled Postal Workers Union is a alt corp for Atlas alliance and if we don’t drop the war dec they will war dec us. So after a bit of haggling we come to an arrangement and they pay us 175 mill to drop the war dec. Then they find out that Prometheus09 is in Systematic Chaos, who they are blue to and therefore they want a refund. I have always stated that CPR was not an alt corp of sys-k and therefore their blue standings done apply to CPR. However, Atlas didn’t think so strangely enough. Anyway after a little bit of thought I decided to put the 175 mill away for a rainy day.

We then we went to Inrin where we had located a nice POS worth 1.6 billion which gave us all itchy trigger fingers and a very real desire to blow it up. While doing some further scouting in Inrin we found some POS owned by Chribba and thus we found a use for the 175 mill ransom we got from Atlas; war decing Chribba. Now a lot of you know the story from here. We managed to steal one of Chribba’s POS by bumping his Orca off the tower after he had conveniently unanchored it for us which resulted in Chribba smack talking me in local a little bit

Epimithius09 > thanks chribba
chribba > enjoy
Chribba > couldn’t care less about the towers themselves
Epimithius09 > we like towers : )
Chribba > yep I know
Chribba > question is if you like it because you fail at pvp or if you just enjoy taking on defenceless stuff?
Epimithius09 > i do fail at pvp : ) and it is fullfilling work
Chribba > aye then look forward to two more towers tomorrow then
Epimithius09 > we do indeed
Chribba > great

Then Chribba turned to the denizens of the Crime and Punishment forum for help in fighting of us big bad POS greifers.

It made a lot of people hate us.

A lot of people came to help Chribba.

We killed them.

They killed us.

They war deced us.

All up we received nine war decs and then we joined Privateer Alliance. An alliance that welcomed us with wide open arms since we were bringing lots of free war decs and we payed the fees. As it turns out the majority of corps were quite willing to attack a small alt corporation but once we were in privateers a half of then dropped their war decs quick smart. In the words of Zedrik Cayne:

Zedrik Cayne > No, your little alt corp won’t be worth the 150 mil it would cost per week. I’ve got better wars to spend that on.

Prometheus09 > wow you make such a big issue of it then say were not important. I’m hurt now

However the real issues started cropping up when the Sys-k alliance leader, Liam Freeman, came back from vacation and saw Chribba’s thread.

He was not very happy.

He kicked me from the alliance

Then he kicked my corporation, I.M.M from the alliance.

Now no one will even trust me in a diplomatic position, I can’t figure out why. There’s nothing wrong with my diplomacy skills. However, it should be know it wasn’t just me war decing Chribba that made him do this. There was about 11 other reasons, my actions were just the last straw.

So there you have it. The actions of one person managed to piss off half of Eve which then pushed my alliance leader in kicking me from the alliance along with another 300 people in my corp. There you have it, the butter fly effect.

I have to say so though I’m sorry that my actions did affect my corp in the way that it has. Still it was fun (apart from getting kicked from the alliance).

Attacking the King of Veldspar

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

This press release has being distributed in response to the recent actions of CONCORD Preservation and Recovery against the Alliances Otherworld Empire and Otherworld Empire Productions.

CONCORD Preservation and Recovery is a corporation that aims to protect lunar bodies from the geological damage they sustain from POS’s. In particular offline POS’s provide a real danger to lunar bodies due the hazardous chemicals they release, which results in damage to the geological formations found on moons. Online POS do not offer as much of a threat to moons as offline POS but they still attribute to the geological damages found on moons, thus CPR will take out online POS when it is deemed viable. For more information on the mission statement of CPR please follow this link

While scouting the system of Inrin an offline POS, as well as two onlined POS’s, was located by CONCORD Preservation and Recovery that were owned by the New Eden Celebrity Chribba. CONCORD Preservation and Recovery does not believe that a person’s POS should be off-limits due their position in society as an offline POS, irrespective of the owner, is promoting the destruction of lunar environment, thus the offenders POS has to be removed and the owner prosecuted. To this end CONCORD Preservation and Recovery placed war declarations on Otherworld Empire and Otherworld Empire Productions, the two alliances owned by Chribba.

In response to this Chribba proceeded to online the offlined POS and then began the process of unanchoring one of his POS’s in an attempt to avert the course of environmental justice. This resulted in some of the CONCORD Preservation and Recovery pilots to waiting at his POS until the unanchoring process had nearly finished and then bumped his orca of the POS and used our own industrial ship to confiscate the Dread Guristas Small Control Tower that he quite thoughtfully unanchored of us to help pay for the war declarations.

With the knowledge that unanchoring his POS would result in its confiscation and with the war dec going live in a short period of time, which would result in their destruction, Chribba proceeded to advertise his predicament on GalNet. The residents of New Eden rallied to his cry for help and proceeded to help him avert the course of justice. When the war dec went live some 60 Chribba supporters turned up in Inrin to remote repair the POS in Pospreys. The pilots of CONCORD Preservation and Recovery acknowledged that the support Chribba was receiving would make it impossible to kill the towers. Therefore, our pilots proceeded to attack the neutral reomote rep, which resulted in number of Posprey being killed until our glorious martyrs themselves died in the protection of the rights of the lunar environment.

Neutral Remote Rep at Chribbas POS

Placing the war decs on Chribba also resulted in the chest beating of many  corporations on GalNet who threatened to war dec CONCORD Preservation and Recovery and never let us live in peace. So far only 10 war decs have being placed with Noir Mercenary Group retracting theirs shortly after. CONCORD Preservation and Recovery also retracted their war declarations shortly after due to the realisation that it would be impossible to take down the offending POS’s. This is of standard practice for CONCORD Preservation and Recovery as the goal is to destroy POS’s. If a POS can no longer be destroyed there is no reason to keep the war dec active as there are plenty of POS out there that need to be removed due their participation in the destruction of the lunar environment.

Epimithius09

CEO of CONCORD Preservation and Recovery
tl;dr

We war deced Chribba

We stole one of his POS’s

He made a forum post and lots of people hated us. They threatened to war decs. Some of them even did.

Some questions people have

Why did we war dec Chribba? Because he had some POS’s that would be easy to kill and make us a nice profit. Also, because it would be fun.

Did I know who Chribba was before I placed the war dec? Yes I did.

Did this influence my decision? Yes it did. Normally I won’t war dec an alliance as it is too expensive to do. I made an exception here as it was Chribba
