Wormhole Treasures

The Captains Log 15/7

Solarsystem: Unknown

Shiptype: Armageddon Class Battleship

In wormholes there are plenty of treasures to be found; such as POS’s that are about to come out of reinforced. Now you may ask how is this a treasure? Well its quite simple. If a POS is in reinforced it means that someone has put it into reinforced and therefore someone has to come back and finish destroying it; which means we can get ourselves a fight.

So we got a remote rep Battleship fleet together in preparation for destroying some random fleet and at a random POS.  15 minutes before the POS was due to come out of reinforced a Chained Reaction fleet consisting of a Manticore, Hound, Sleipnir, Nighthawk, 2x Armageddon’s, Raven and a Typhoon landed on the WH and proceeded to move to the POS.

That was our queue. Our Broadsword went in got initial aggro and points and was promptly destroyed. That was all right though because as he blew up we landed and proceeded to annihilate the enemy fleet (Battle Report). Unfortunate the Hound and Typhoon got away, but you can’t have everything I guess.

After wiping out that fleet we removed the control tower they were shooting as well and used the Badger Mark II and Bestower the original POS had left there to haul all his POS modals out. It was at this time a pilot affliated with them contacted us about what had just happened.

Lyanca > any of you guys mind sharing a battle report on my carebear friends you guys just raped in J102602

Lyanca > these guys don’t post their lossmails

Sorakage > why did you want to kill that pos ? something personal ? or .. ?

Lyanca > I don’t know why they did sorakage

Lyanca > but we usually siege badly defended pos’s in wh space

Lyanca > random

Sorakage > we randomly killed you :)

Lyanca > you weren’t even hired?

Alekseyev Karrde > nope

Lyanca > that’s frikkin excellent

Alekseyev Karrde > prober found hole w rf’d pos, we kept eyes to see what would show up to kill it

Alekseyev Karrde > unfortunatly for them the highsec entrance was 4j from our base this week

Sorakage > we weren`t going contract mode, or everything would have died , hound+ phoon

Lyanca > yeah well played

Lyanca > lol

Lyanca > almost happy I wasn’t there

All I can say is bad luck for them. They randomly find a POS they want to destroy and we randomly find them.

Oh no you Didn’t.

The Captains Log 2/7

Solarsystem: Unknown

So I was catching up on blog posts (I haven’t read or written a blog post for about three weeks due to uni exams etc) when I came across a post written by Wench with a Wrench. Essentially her corporation, Adhocracy, had decided it was great idea to take down another corporation WH POS. The defending corporation then decided to hire Noir to A) save their POS and B) remove the enemy POS from the WH.

Now, allot of our members don’t like POS save/POS removal contracts because they are boring and we have to return to the POS to finish it off one day and 17 hours later. So as we are taking down Adhocracy POS’s our FC had a great idea… why don’t start negotiations with Adhocracy and get them to take down the POS. This benefits everyone as the POS is removed, we don’t have to shoot the POS and the enemy gets to keeps their POS. Apparently, Adhocracy thought this was great ideas as well as they agreed to our terms, we would help to rep the modules we had damaged and they would take the POS down immediately.

For the next part of this post listen to this song.

Everything was going well until it came time to taking down the POS itself. Adhocracy didn’t want to take it down as some of their players were still logged in at the POS but were offline. Therefore they wanted us to wait 6 hours until those members would be back and be able to remove themselves from the POS and the WH. (Pro tip: Never log of at a POS. When you log back on you may find that it has being rap caged and you are trapped). Now this is what we call reneging on a contract. When we say that your POS is to be removed immediately, that does not mean take all your modules off then remove the POS 6 hours later. Immediately means now.

When this occurs there is only one appropriate response. You take it down now or we will take it down for you. We started regathering our fleet in preparation for round two of the POS removal when Adhocracy came to their senses and decided that immediately does mean now and not 6 hours later. I don’t think Adhocracy actually realise how close they were to losing that POS. We take reneging on a deal very seriously at Noir. If you do it we get pissed. When we get pissed we like to shoot people; namely the people who reneged on deal.

Keep that in mind when you decide to hire us.

For those of you watching the AT8 stream or you the YouTube video you will know by now that we lost our first round, which went against allot of the predictions people had made. In fact we only managed to kill two ships in our fight, the Thrasher and the Daredevil.

So what happened? Why did we lose?

Talking to our FC afterwards he described what happened during the battle. The first problem was the Curse. While our ships were not using active tanks or weapons that used caps, they did need cap to run their hardeners, which once they went offline severely affected their buffer tank. The second problem, though to a lesser extent, was tracking disrupters, which managed to reduce some the DPS coming from our Sleipnir’s.

The biggest problem we experienced though was a lack of situational awareness. During the fight our FC ordered all DPS to be placed onto the basilisk in the belief that it was performing a remote rep function. Turns this was not the case it, it was the Tengu and our FC didn’t realise this until it was too late. That is what killed us. If all of our DPS had of been placed on the Tengu allot earlier their setup would have failed. In fact the Tengu would have died quite fast, as you can see in the video, our Nighthawk managed to knock it down to half shields by its self.

So from out little fight you can see that alliance tournament matches don’t just come down the best setup but also how well the FC does.

Props goes out to Roastedpot, one of our Daredevil pilots who managed to not die during the match and spent some time orbiting around the arena. He even got some fanmail during the match.

So now that is over it is time for some rage.

During the alliance commentary CCP stated that as mercenaries we would have spies in all the alliance tournament teams. This made allot of our members quite angry as we do not use spies. If we beat you it is because we are simply better then you not through having spies to follow all your movements and relay Intel to us. For another thing, it is simply impractical to utilise spies. We get contracts quite regularly and often with little warning, which makes it rather impractical to get spies into target corporations in a time frame for them to be useful. So do not accuse us of utilising spies. We not the Guiding Hand Social Club.

The Captains Log 15/4

Solarsystem: HP-6Z6

Ship: Armageddon Class Battleship

As Julius Ceaser once said (sort of) We came. We saw. We conquered. Over the last few days Noir. has being tacking sovereignty in the systems in the H-KW4A constellation in Providence, which can be seen below.

As you can see it is a nice little constellation that is easily defendable with one entry system,  it contains four stations and has a decent amount of belts, not that it matters much when we have anomalies.

I was present for the capture of the first system that came out of reinforced, H9-J8N, in which my Chimera, Pride of the Pantheon, got its first combat experience. For the most part AAA did the hard work while Noir. shot the last little bit of structure so the station flipped over to us.

Conquest: You can see the Armageddon I was flying and my Chimera in this picture.

Once the station flipped over to us we than went and destroyed the CVA Territorial Claim Unit, with the might of the AAA cap fleet it was reduced to space dust within a couple minutes, and put up our own TCU.

Down with the Empire: Removing the TCU and the trace of CVA from our new system.

Noir. isn’t the only alliance to gain space in Providence recently, in fact our little campaign has been part of larger push by AAA to remove CVA from providence completely and install new sov holders in what is being termed New Providence. New Providence is going to hold about 20 or sov holding alliances who will not engage in territorial warfare against each other, but will still be involved in roaming gangs. If you really want to know more about I suggest you check out this thread, it covers what has been happening in providence quite well.

Of course with Noir. tacking a slice of the 0.0 pie there was a lot talk on the Kugutsmen forums about Noir’s future intentions in regards to holding sov and about our future relationship with AAA. The official Noir blog covers this pretty well. effectively once our space is secure we are going to be resetting our standings with AAA and will engage in combat with them, either on contract or off contract. Our space is in reality going to be holiday home where we can come and make a bit of ISK in-between contracts and keep our PvP skills up to scratch and will not be something that holds a large sway over us. It is there to serve us, not for us to serve it.

Looking for renters

With us holding sov though Noir. leadership has decided that we will rent our systems to our to people that would like a little bit of 0.0 action. You will have access to all four stations in our constellations as well ratting and mining rights and you will also be able to set up a POS for a small fee. Furthermore, you will be able to join our alliance, Lucky Starbase Syndicate and not even have to worry about setting standings with corps or alliances. It will cost you 100mill per month, a real bargain (it used to cost my old alliance 3 billion a month to rent a constellation in Esoteria). For information either join our public channel “Cafe Noir.” (don’t forget the . at the end of Noir.) or contact Asuka Smith.

Providence Murder Train

Friday, April 9th, 2010

The Captains Log 9/4

Region: Providence

Shiptype: Manticore Class Stealth Bomber

The war, or should I say murder train, continues in Providence. So far Noir. has been keeping our little pocket of Providence thoroughly pacified and there has been a rather large lack of resistance (there has been some but only limited).

While there may be no organised resistance there has been the usual traffic of people trying to escape a sinking ship. In fact we even managed to kill a CVA freighter worth 2.8 billion that was trying to escape while they thought we were not looking.

Another person went to try and take down one of their POS’s they had offlined only to realise they had two guns still anchored so they would have to unanchore the guns before they can get the POS out. So they onlined the POS and we came in and incapacitated the guns, so now they have to either rep the guns or blow them up before they can get the POS out, which gives a opportunity to shoot them.

Then there are the people who like to run plexs…. while we are flying around and then wonder why they got killed.

Ryokin Garesh > Mind leavin me be ?

Ryokin Garesh > Real tough fight for ya huh?

Ryokin Garesh > Congrats assholes, you managed to defeat the HUGE danger of a single drake

We even finished the Plex for him since we are so nice.

So far we have destroyed 288 ships, worth 16.38 billion ISK while we have only lost 22 ships worth a total of 1.35 billion, with a biggest defeat being a CVA gang that was specifically designed to kill our ECM ships. Unfortunately, for them we now know about so we can avoid it and let them fly around while we stay cloaked up or we can fit a counter gang.

While we have made the locals cower in their stations, AAA has come through put all the stations and infrastructure hubs into their second reinforcement timer, so we can expect to tack these systems within the next couple of days unless CVA and friends decided to put up a last ditch defence fleet which will ultimately achieve nothing.

En mass: The AAA cap fleet doing their thing

Flock: The Fighters from the Carriers and Supper Carriers block out the station.

Soon this space will be ours.

The Captains Log 6/4

Region: Providence

Shiptype: Cerabus Class Heavy Assult Ship

So our operation went off without a hitch last night, the goal was to deploy Sovereignty Blockade Units throughout a constellation in Providence, which is part of a larger initiative tacking place across the whole of Providence to remove CVA from providence completely. The first stage of the operation was utilising a Titan to Titan Bridge our fleet into the target system, after which we proceeded to deploy our SBU’s and protect them against awesome might of CVA and allies who brought Stealth Bombers to the field to try and kill our fleet. Let us just say that they failed.

Insertion: The Noir. Titan bridges us into the target system.

After our SBU’s were deployed we flew around killing the Provi Holders Stealth Bombers, only to learn that they had a 50 man fleet gathering on the constellation entry gate. As we didn’t quite have the man power to take them on, we informed AAA of their presence and they brought down their 200 man fleet and squished them. Not content with killing that fleet AAA came into the constellation and proceeded to knock out CVA’s cyno jammers and once the SBU’s had finished onlining they put the stations into reinforced as well.  Apparently, while that was happening we caught three of their Titans in one of our Bubbles.

A little later I got to set up a rape cage around their central station preventing anyone from docking directly at the station and more importantly preventing them from undocking without being caught in our lovely bubble trap. You would be surprised at how often people will do this after someone else has already been caught once. Well I guess some people just can’t learn.

Rape Cage. No one wants to be here

In another couple days after the stations come out of reinforced I guess we will find out how determined CVA is to keep this space.

Well I have spent the last two days getting ready for rather big op that Noir. is going to put into effect in the next couple of hours. The fact that I have got a fleet ready for this op is quite amazing as I normally buy a ship, lose it, buy another and never have any ships prepared in advance to replace my losses. Well so far my fleet consists of

1 x Chimera

1 x Sniper Apoc

2 x Short range Geddons

1 x Cerabus

1 x Taranis

4 x Manticore (3 torp boats and 1 bombing platform)

So as you can see I have a nice choice of what I can use depending on what the situation calls for. The next week is going to be fun indeed.

The Captains Log 29/3

Solar System:  Uedama

Shiptype: Apocalypse Class Battleship

Since I have joined Noir. I have to clean my up my act a little bit. No more can flipping, no more suicide ganking, no more smack talking, no more  neutral remote repping and most galling of all I have to defend POS’s, not blow them up, and that was what we did last Saturday; defend someone’s research POS.

The op started with us all gathering on a gate with our RR battleships and support fleet, only for one our Falcons to get suicided ganked by a Tempest.

sammual > OH MY GOD WTF HAPPENED ALEX

sammual > TELL CCP TO NERF SUICIDES

sammual > OH MY GOD

sammual > WOW

sammual > JUST WOW

Preparation: The fleet gathers to do violence (courtesy of Mynxee)

Ignoring such an insignificant loss we bravely marched on to the POS that we were to defend and set our shield reppers to work repairing the POS shields and the Battleship fleet to repairing the POS defences.

The enemy corp didn’t have the military strength to fight us directly so they resorted to utilising Tempests in hit and run tactics in an attempt to destroy our shield reppers. Our shields reppers though were too quick for them and managed to duck back into the POS shields before they any damage could be done and repairing capabilities compromised.

Giving up on hit and run tactics they decided to utilise a Smartbombing Megathron to destroy our valiant shield reppers. It failed, and we got to destroy the Megathron. The enemy corporation though weren’t ready to give up just yest so they tried a few more hit and runs with their Tempests; all to no avail. In defeat they withdrew their war dec and went to find someone else who didn’t have Merceries repairing their POS, and that’s what we did, baby sit a POS. Easy money I guess.

Contract: Primary Alliance

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

The Captains Log 24/3

Solar system: Q4C-S5

Shiptype: Manticore Class Stealth Bomber

Well I have finished my first contract with Noir, which was against Primary Alliance in Scalding Pass. Apparently this was a contract people were getting sick of as it was a three week long contract (originally it was four) out in deep 0.0, though I didn’t have any issues with it as I came in the last week of the contract. For me it was thoroughly enjoyable being able to fight with professional PvPers who know what they are doing.

The first kills I acquired in Noir was when we broke a up a Total Damnation gate camp by, not who were contracted to kill, but when Primary wouldn’t undock from their stations we tend to shoot who ever wanders into the contract area. I was in my trusty Manticore, while the rest of the Noir gang was flying mainly Stealth Bombers and Recons with a little bit of tackle thrown in there. The hostile gang consisted of Battle Cruisers and Cruisers for the most part. They got flattened, losing all six of their ships while we lost nothing. Very professional if I must say so myself.

Then next targets that I found were a Retriever and Drake sitting in belt, a perfect target. I warped in my Manticore so I could get a warp in for the rest of the fleet, only to bounce of Asteroid and lose my cloak. Fuck there went the element of surprise. However, I wasn’t going to let them go just because the battle plan got screwed up. I put my sensor damp on the Drake preventing him from shooting me while I laid into the Retriever, three volleys later the Retriever was down and the Drake ran away.

My favourite kill though was Myrmidon, which I soloed in my Manticore, which has no point and no tank. I was sitting on the 4-C gate in Q4C-S5 when a Myrmidon warps onto the gate and sits there. Now at that time I was quite bored and wanted to shoot something, even if I couldn’t kill him. The corp members on vent told me not to bother, he was bait and a Primary gang would land on top of me as soon as I engaged. As I said though, I was bored so I decloaked and open fired.

I knocked out his shields and there was no sign of a hostile gang.

I started taking out his armour. He didn’t move or shoot back. My corp mates said he was playing with me and would turn on his duel reps and rep his armour right on back up.

I took out most of his armour and then ran out of torps so I had to reload. No sign of reinforcements.

Torps reloaded so I open fire again and blow his ship up.

For good measure I blow up his Pod as well. I hope he had expensive implants.

I hope you all learnt something from that.

So far the only problem I have had with Noir is due to timezones as it tends to be quite during the Australian prime time, which has led me to start training to use a Vagabond so I can get involved in some more solo fights. Unfortunately, that is over a month away.

On that not Noir. is recruiting so if you think you have what it takes to be a mercenary apply to join us.

The Captains Log 27/12

Solar System: A1-AUH; Esoteria. Amarr; Domain

Shiptype: Drake Class Battlecruiser, Prophecy Class Battlecruiser, Harbinger Class Battlecruiser

Logging on to Eve I notice two things. 1st Privateer Alliance had once again war deced us and therefore Daqurais and Maximus Sotar (both corp mates) were fighting them up in Amarr. 2nd GoonSwarm has brought a Drake plus support gang into our space and were terrorizing the local carebares. Normally, I am all for shooting Goons, but I was trapped in a station in my ratting Raven with a Goon fleet between me and all my PvP ships (consisting of one). Thankfully a fellow corp member, JShepard, lent me a Drake to fight in. Our fleet was outnumbered by 2:1 but we decided to go for it, the idea being that our four logistics ships would keep us alive. Well the plan worked… for a little bit then we all got toasted by the multitude of Drakes they had. Seriously, check my loss mail to see how many Drakes were utilised in splattering my Drake across Star Gate. However, it wasn’t a complete loss as we did manage to kill some of them (Broadsword, Broadsword, Broadsword, Drake, Drake, Drake, Hurricane).

So after that botched home defence I logged Caladan09 on in Amarr and proceeded to camp the Privateer Alliance boys into the Amarr station. Unfortuantly they didn’t want to come out and play so we decided have some fun with another guy in Amarr, Junzai, who kept on leaving cans outside station for people to steal from. So we stole from them, he would shoot one of us, we would shoot him then he would dock up. The major problem we had was we didn’t have corp agro on him so only one of could us attack him at any time (whoever stole from the can).

Well that all changed when a Mammoth undocked and was promptly killed by the Amarr Police leaving behind 20k units of hydrogen istopes in his wreak. I went to steal from them only to have Junzai steal them first so I stole them of him and then he came out in a Iteron and stole them back, which gave him corp agro to all of us. So when he undocked in a Megathron we laid in the hurt and blew him up along with some neutral remote rep he had. After that we gave up on the Privateers in Amarr and went to Jita only to be disappointed there as well as they wouldn’t undock and fight so we logged off.

The next day we were back at playing the Privateers in Amarr. Only this time it didn’t work out so well. On my way back from Jita in my Prophecy I ran into a Privateer Drake. I forced him to engage me on a gate one jump from the rest of the fleet but by the time they arrived I had died and the Drake had warped off. So we went back to playing docking games until Privateers brought in more people to play with us and killed Daquaris Dominix and then my Harbinger which I had just bought, when I failed to dock back up in time. Ahh well not everything works out. The only reason these losses hurt was due me losing my ratting Raven just minutes before to warp scrambling rats.
