The Captains Log 26/1

Ship: Mackinaw

As part of my plan to generate more ISK I am getting a couple of my characters the standings they require to run level four missions. This means a lot of mission grinding, which can get a little boring.

So I decided to liven things up a little by doing some Ice mining on one of my characters. Yes you heard right; I was going to relieve the grind of running mission by mining. You see mining has a couple of nice benefits. Firstly it would allow me subsidise part of my fuel bill for my S&I POS and secondly other people like to mine as well. Some of those people like to jet can mine which naturally attracts other people who like to can flip the miners in the hope of an easy kill.

Now I like to jet can mine, though not because it’s quicker or more efficient. I like to do it in the hope that some prick will come along and can flip me so I can bring my mission running character out in a PvP ship and blow up some poor unsuspecting can flipper. Now don’t get me wrong I couldn’t care less about people can flipping, I only want to blow them up to get a bit of amusement out of it.

So when I see a hauler warp in to the Ice belt with me I got really excited thinking I was about to be can flipped. I was therefore very disappointed when a Retriever warped in beside him and proceeded to mine Ice. Now using a hauler to haul the ore out as you mine it is a very effective way of avoiding can flippers and remain productive. However, it is not foolproof as the miner still has to jet can his ore for the hauler to pick up. If the hauler fails to grab it quickly enough I can grab it first. So that what I did. I got up nice and close to the Retriever in my Mackinaw and grabbed his ore when he jet canned it. Then been the nice guy I am I jettisoned it for him to grab. He wasn’t going to do that though. So when my cargo hold gets full of Ice I warp out of the system to dump my Ice at my POS. While I’m gone the hauler thinks it’s a good idea to take his Ice back and deliver it to the station next door. When he jumps the gate though he runs right into my Wolf who is waiting to teach him about why it is bad to steal ore. Needless to say the hauler’s life span was dramatically shortened when he made the decision to steal his ore back.

It was a good day to be a miner (for me at least). The next day was even better.

Warping into the same Ice belt the day after I found a person jet can mining. He had three jet cans full of Ice just sitting next to him so I decided to be a helpful and caring person and came along in my Iteron V to haul all his Ice to my POS to save him doing all that hard work. After I did all that hard work for him he didn’t even thank me, which was very rude of him. My only regret is that I didn’t have enough time to can flip him. Ahh well we can’t have everything in life and Ice miners can’t have their ore.

A Bad Day for Me.

The Captains Log 17/7 4:32
So I lost my Manticore due to stupidity.

I then decided to mine some bistot to by a Pilgrim for Caladan09 when his training is finished, and if I had time I would mine some more Bistot for a new Manticore. I cleared out one belt of Bistot easily tanking the spawn there. I then moved onto a new belt, it had plenty of Bistot and a easy spawn to tank. So I set up my mining lasers and started chewing up the rock. I switched to my hauler account and started hauling to our POS. My haluer warped back to Caladan09 as he was mining just in time to see his hulk explode. I figured what had happaned was that my mining lasers were not cycled properly, so that they caped me out and turned off my tank. Sigh. Two ships in one day through stupid mistakes.

The next morning we had a alliance op going so I decided to get Prometheus09 to station so I could dock up and clone jump him back down to our systems and take out my Onyx. Unfortunately for me, I ran into a gate camp composed of interceptors, an Onyx, and a few other ships. I couldn’t even cloak with all the insta-locks that got me, my shields died, my armour evaporated and the structure was non-existent. My pod shortly followed, losing another set of +4 implants.

What did I learn from all this (and you should learn)? 1. Pay attention to your surroundings. 2 Have a scout for your Arazu – cloak is not invincible.

So after I clone jumped back home I got my Onyx out and took a wormhole up into empire with my fleet, from there we headed down to N-RAEL where we set up a gate camp. Unfortunately my bubble couldn’t cover the gate so a few ships got away. We did manage to get a Manticore kill, he could have got away but he felt it was necessary to launch a bomb at us, which killed nothing and doomed his ship, a small consolation for my earlier loss. On the way back home we found a Charon that seemed like it was about to jump into low sec, though it unfortunately didn’t.

In Other News

In corp news I bought enough mex to start build some battle ships to sell and increase the corp wallet. Also bought some Thrasher BPO’s and the Cryptic Data Interface to start running some Sabre invention jobs, as well as buying more isotopes to run our POS. The wormhole that was found proved quite useful in transporting these goods. On the topic of POS our logistics manager and I spent a fair chunk of our play time over the past few days reconfiguring our POS setup in an attempt to reduce the number of POS we own to lower our fuel bill. This was done successfully and reduced our fuel bill in half (it is fun taking down POS’s : ).
